Edward Hebern

Edward Hugh Hebern was born on April 23, 1869 in Streator, Illinois. His parents were Charles and Rossanna Hebern. On Februrary 4, 1866 they married in Harris, Texas. He had 4 siblings; Arizona, born in 1867, Daniel Boone, born in 1871, Nellie born in 1874, and William born in 1875. (https://wikivisually.com/wiki/Edward_Hebern)


In 1908, Edward Hebern was arrested for stealing a horse. While he was in prison in 1917, he had the idea to make an electric rotor mix up the alphabet and make a coding device. At the age of 6, on August 4, 1875 him and three of his siblings were admitted to the Illinois Soldiers' and Sailor's home in Normal, Illionois, after his father died in 1874. Then on February 13, 1878, the youngest child, William, was admitted to the house as well.
