Martin Luther King Jr, born January 15, 1929 in Atlanta Georgia was a social activist who led the civil rights movement from the mid-1950s up until his death in 1968. King grew up in a comfortable middle class family, who followed the traditions of Southern Black ministry. Both his parents were college educated and when King was 15, he entered Morehouse College. In his senior year at Morehouse, King decided to enter the ministry, as his father had urged. There, King began his long journey of commitment to fighting racial inequality. MLK Jr. changed the world through his nonviolent civil rights protests.
