However, there were negative changes and effects as well. After the invention of jazz, people often credited it to white musicians. This is now proven as false, but at the time some believed this was true. ​​​​​​​

Another negative change was that music companies and agencies started telling black musicians to start playing music that white people wanted to hear. They wanted them to market more towards white communities and listeners because they believed that they could buy more music and go to more shows because of their “greater economic success”.

Also, the music agencies reaped most of the profits that these musicians were creating. They did not pay the black musicians as well as they paid the white musicians even if the black musicians were better.
