Francis Galton, an anthropologist known for his studies in eugenics and human intelligence, is believed to have started the Nature vs Nurture Debate in the mid-1800s. It’s a debate about whether nature (genes), or nurture (environment), has a greater effect on human behavior. Francis Galton’s first question which began the debate was, “Can I get more lawful and intelligent people to marry and breed so that the world would be made up of better people?” He started the Nature vs Nurture Debate as a scientifically guided social program. His belief was that nature trumped nurture. Francis Galton's claim interested other scientists, like behaviorists and naturalists. This soon led to experimentation with twin studies.
