W.T. Lewis

Federal Prohibition Agent Willie Thomas Lewis was Andrew's great great grandfather. He and his partner had intercepted a communication and tracked down two bootlegging suspects near Kinston, NC. They pretended that they wanted to purchase moonshine, and the two suspects took Willie and his partner to the place they were making it. When they got there the suspects showed them the liquor, and Willie arested them. One of them ran, and Willie's partner went after him, but the other one had a gun pointed at Willie. Willie said that he was going to walk away, because he had a family and did not want to die. As Willie turned around to walk away, the man shot him from behind. Though he had gunshot wounds, he managed to crawl to a farmhouse. He told the people inside that he was a federal agent and that he had been shot, and that he had a wife and kids. They took him to a hospital and brought his family to see him. Four days after he had been shot, he died on July 15, 1927 in Kinston, NC. He was 38 years old.
