Why Prohibition Failed

Prohibition failed because during the great depression the government was not getting as many taxes as it usually got, so the government repealed prohibition to gain more money. Some states refused to enforce Prohibition because so many people were against this law. Prohibition also made it very common for people to bootleg or smuggle alcohol in. It instigated crime and it created more chaos than usual. There was a loophole in Prohibition that allowed you to have Sacramental wine for church or other alcohol for medical reasons. Many people were faking religious and medicinal reasons so they could have alcohol.
