THESIS
In the wake of the Reconstruction Era, Jim Crow Laws in southern states enforced and legalized racial segregation, creating unequal opportunities for African-Americans and inspiring the Civil Rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s. The rise of the Black Panther Party created a turning point in history by radicalizing the fight for equal rights by challenging the authority of racist social institutions, advocating armed self-defense against police brutality, and promoting the socialization of resources traditionally denied to the African–American community.
