Fighting in the first crusade picked up with the second wave. It consisted of four armies they were led by Hugh of Vermandois, Godfrey, Raymond, and Bohemond. Hugh of Vermandois was the first count from the House of Capet. Godfrey was a French Nobles “...He was best known for leading an army in the First Crusade, and becoming the first European ruler in the Holy Land.” (Snell, Who Was Godfrey of Bouillon?)  Raymond IV was also a noble man; he was a count of Toulouse he fought in the battles of Antioch and Jerusalem. Bohémond de Tarente participated in the battles of Jerusalem Nicea and mainly Antioch where he took control and with his smarts he was able to strike a deal with a traitor and take control of the city.
