After Effects

From monarchy to a presidency is a huge change. So Hawaii was forever changed after annexation. The language and culture were strongly impacted, even to this day. Less than 2% of the people in Hawaii actually speak Hawaiian with fluency. But there are some programs that exist to help with bringing the language and culture back.

Education

There are multiple education opportunities that are in place in Hawaii to help bring back some of what was lost. One example is Kamehameha Schools. This school is mainly focused on having Native Hawaiian students, due to the will of Princess Pauahi Paki. In her will she asked that the school would give opportunity to Native Hawaiians. She knew that education was very beneficial, so she wanted to give that opportunity to her people.

Another example is the DOE system implementing the Hawaiian Studies program for history. This program helps to share the culture and language to students in Hawaii.

Our last example is the Hawaiian immersion programs. There are schools that have programs that teach in Hawaiian. This creates children who can keep the language alive.

Organizations

There are multiple organizations that work to bring back culture and language in Hawaii. There are non-profits that work to expose others to Hawaiian culture and language. Not only non-profits, but also programs/organizations are in place to do the same thing.
