For several hundreds of years, it seemed almost impossible to break the language barrier of Egyptian hieroglyphics - the imagery and structure had stumped even the brightest of minds. It wasn't until July of 1779 when a group of Napolean Bonaparte's Egypt Campaign engineers discovered an artifact with three scripts known as the Rosetta Stone - the most indispensable key to decipher the lost language of hieroglyphics and secrets of the Old Kingdom of Egypt. The discovery of the stone lead to Jean-Francois Champollion to decipher the Egyptian hieroglyphic script and finally breaking the enigma. Thus, making the Rosetta Stone one of the most vital artifacts in history and the development of Egyptology.
