The Steam Engine

Reform

The steam engine changed transportation and production of goods forever. It changed the whole concept of transportation, from weeklong journeys that took many resources and time, to quick transports that are easy to use.

According to 15minutehistorypodcast, “ It redefined labor, personal activities, and people’s very way of life.” The steam engine changed the very idea of what people thought was possible. It would change the world for years to come.

As you can see in the graph to the right, after the steam engine was made, the way people lived was reformed. Tightly packed cities became the sprawling metropolises that we see today. People could get their jobs from far away and get more reliable transportation that we still have today.

Another main thing that we can see from the steam engine was the “unimaginable pollution that spilled into the air and waterways.” The use of coal and oil that was needed to power the steam engine created pollution that we still see traces of today.
