Environmental groups worked to keep the government in check. They held a panel to accuse the government of noise issues. “environmental panel holds ‘educational session’”: several people brought up specific proposals such as the Honolulu reef runway” Many things changed after the runway was built. The runway allowed many more aircraft into the airport. some ecological areas improved after the project… The Citizens Against Noise group complained that noise wouldn’t go down further slowing down the project. “On the same side as Citizens Against Noise has been the State’s Office of Environmental Quality. [...] this transport mode could have devastating effects upon environmental quality and upon public health.” The government reported about Marine Life, Environmental Consultants, and the lagoon. “Marine Life. The nearshore marine communities in Mamala Bau. Ke’ehi Lagoon and Hickam Harbor have been subjected to various disturbances since the early 1900s [...] A single colony of coral was noted along the circulation channel B (dredged as part of the Reef Runway. [...] Inner Ke’ehi Lagoon probably was not adversely affected during construction of the Reef Runway.”
