Actively defying the Butler Act of 1925, John Thomas Scopes was charged with teaching evolution to children. Coined the Scopes Monkey Trial, public interest grew as the frontier of separation of Church and State was crumbling. The trial ultimately led to the Butler Act getting repealed much later, which gave religious freedom back to America.
