The democratic government remains to this day, surviving several peaceful transfers of power,  with the current 6th president, Andrzej Duda, winning a fair election in 2015 and 2020. The President of Poland can stand among his people without fear of assassination, in stark contrast to Russia, whose current president, Putin, is incapable of this.

Putin declared war on Ukraine with his security council in February 2022.

Following the failed cue attempt, the perestroika plan is ended, and most of its changes were undone. Also, the USSR component states started questioning the united government and separated into different countries. The post-communist elites that came to power in Russia in 1991 remained in control without ever relinquishing power, eventually becoming a dictatorship.  Putin, who assumed power in 2000 become distrustful of everyone and removed every freedom he could from his citizens.
