The democratic government remains to this day, surviving several peaceful transfers of power, with the current 6th president, Andrzej Duda, winning a fair election in 2015 and 2020. The President of Poland can stand among his people without fear of assassination, in stark contrast to Russia, whose current president, Putin, is incapable of this.

The post-communist elites that came to power in Russia in 1991 remained in control without ever relinquishing power, eventually becoming a dictatorship. Putin, who assumed power in 2000 become distrustful of everyone and removed every freedom he could from his citizens.
