Fluctuation in Systemic Racism: The Efficacy of Fear in Communications from the Civil Rights Movement to the Black Lives Matter Movement

THESIS

Over the past four centuries, the journey towards eradicating racism against African Americans in the US has fluctuated between progression and regression, following the tides of previous racial justice movements as improvements in technology offer newer and faster outlets of media and messaging. Although modes of communication have evolved between the Civil Rights Movement and the Black Lives Matter movement, the hierarchical structure of systemic racism remains stagnant due to perpetuation of fear through various false narratives, and, as a result, society’s reluctance towards change.
