                            Background

Linda Brown was born on Febraury 20, 1943 in Topeka, Kansas. Reverend Oliver Leon Brown was Linda Brown's father who was a

minister at St. Mark's African American Methodist (AME) Church in Topeka ("Linda Brown"). It all starrted on a cold fall day in

Topeka, Kansas in 1950, a black man took her child by the hand and walked four blocks to the all white school from their home and tried

without success to enroll his child ("Linda Brown on..."). Linda Brown could not go to school with herr neighborhood playmates and it was

very difficult for her to understand why she couldn't go the the same school with her friends because of the color of her skin. When September

came, her friends in the neighborhood took their schools book sin hand and walked to the all white school from their home ("May 17, 1984...").

Linda Brown would have to walk seven blocks to the bus stop everyday and oftentimes, she could only make half of that walk because she

couldn't handle the coldness and the weather was too strong for a small child to handle ("Linda Brown on...").  Linda Brown would have to

turn back to holme and run as fast as she could to overcome the coldness in the air ("Linda Brown on..."). Many of the evenings her father

would come home to see her mother almost in tears, because Linda could come halfway to the bus stop and have to turn back around to home

because she could only make half of that walk ("Linda Brown on..."). Linda Brown had to cross a busy avenue in order to catch the school bus

which would carry her more than two miles to the All Black Monroe Public School ("Linda Brown on..."). The Brown v. the Board of

Education case was filed in in 1954 where all children were able to attend any school because of desegregation between schools and equal

rights for children. When Linda Brown was no longer in elementary school and the case was rendered in 1961, she graduated from Central

Highschool in Springfeild, Missouri ("Linda Brown").
