The frontier of the game of basketball happened when Dr. James Naismith created the game of basketball when the “YMCA’s physical education director, Dr. Luther Gulick, had tasked Naismith with making a game that would be able to be played indoors in the winter” (Zarum). The 30-year-old Canadian native drew on his knowledge of rugby, lacrosse and a childhood game known as “duck on a rock,” which combined tag with throwing, to dream up a new sport (Klein). Basketball required very little equipment to play. Only two peach baskets hanging 10 feet above the ground, and a soccer ball (The History of…).
I chose my topic because it is a big frontier in the history of sports, becoming now as the second most popular sport in the entire world. Basketball is now one of the most played and popular sports, which over three hundred million people play to this day (First ever basketball game). I also chose this topic because it has impacted many sports that already existed at the time, such as football and soccer.
I conducted my research by finding information from different websites that showed how Naismith went through the difficulties and struggles to create the game of basketball. I also found websites that had information about the specific things that happened while Naismith was creating the game, such as Naismith creating the first basketball hoop out of a peach basket. I created my website by taking the information that I have gathered from the different websites, and took the information and compressed it so it could fit into the layout that I had for the website. I then found a color scheme that would fit the website, and I chose the colors orange, white, and black because the orange and black represent the colors of a basketball, and white because it goes well with the orange and black of a basketball.
I chose the category of athletics, because there is a lot to expand on in athletics, and basketball has a big part in athletics, which helped many other people to get ideas for other sports such as netball. I also chose this category because it has a big part in how our world revolves, because many people in the world watch sports for fun, or most people in the world play sports worldwide.
