"That's what happened Stonewall night to a lot of people. We went, 'Oh my God. I am not alone, there are other people that feel exactly the same way.' "
- Lucian Truscott, 2020 -
The Stonewall Uprising was one of the key events in LGBTQ+ history. “I think it is one of the biggest events because it is one of the INITIAL events. We've come a long way since then. It set a part from other events precisely because it was one of the first events.” - Meredith Worthen. It led to a watershed moment, where people started to realize that they could stand up for themselves. "That's what happened Stonewall night to a lot of people. We went, 'Oh my God. I am not alone, there are other people that feel exactly the same way.' " - Doric Wilson. These acts added to the movement, and therefore encouraged others to keep adding to the expanding argument about their privileges, and their identity. With this newfound strength, to this day people create and participate in safespaces such as marches, clubs, and a lot more to celebrate their identities. Even though they have made all this progress, to this day people continue to discriminate against the LGBTQ+ community. With the more people that start to support the LGBTQ+ community, comes more arguments and debates on this. While there’s still hardships that the LGBTQ+ community face, you can see they’ve come a long way.

“All of us who are openly gay are living and writing the history of our movement. We are no more - and no less - heroic than the suffragists and abolitionists of the 19th century; and the labor organizers, Freedom Riders, Stonewall demonstrators, and environmentalists of the 20th century. We are ordinary people, living our lives, and trying as civil-rights activist Dorothy Cotton said, to 'fix what ain't right' in our society.”
