Marsha P. Johnson, Dazed
Marsha P. Johnson was an icon and strong activist for gay and trans liberation. Known and loved by the community, her efforts to make her home a better place shined through. “She tried to help through the AIDS epidemic. If you were sick, she'd sit right by you. She’d stop by and say, ‘Hey, are you okay? Do you need something?’ She was helping a person survive.” - Coco Rodriguez, 2017. She was always willing to stand up for people in need. “I don’t bite my tongue for nobody” - Marsha P. Johnson. She later founded the organization STAR with fellow activist Sylvia Rivera to help homeless LGBTQ+ youth and sex workers. Marsha challenged people’s mindsets and aimed for diplomacy worldwide, which was a big part of the journey to LGBTQ+ acceptance.
“Darling, I want my gay rights now. I think it’s about time the gay brothers and sisters got their rights. And especially the women.” - Marsha P. Johnson
