Reserves

Efforts have been made to establish reserves on Mainland Australia, and to create disease free areas on the island.

“The disease management strategy focuses on isolating devils that are already living in captivity--approximately 70 in zoos on the Australian continent and 100 in parks in Tasmania--from wild populations afflicted with the disease.” (Bostanci)
The establishment of reserves directly demonstrates that conservation efforts are being made, which shows just how much humanity's role has changed in this ecosystem.

“Wildlife managers will also capture young, apparently healthy devils to establish further insurance populations.” (Bostanci)
Further conservation efforts exist as well, only serving to strengthen the contrast between the past and present.

Won't the new population contract DFTD?
