After World War II was over, the majority of the Bombe machines were destroyed with the exception of some. Breaking the Enigma code and creating the Bombe was a laborious and rewarding process. It took about 7-9 years starting from the early 1930s to fully crack the Enigma code. The Bombes saved approximately 1-2 million lives by allowing the allies to foresee the German forces’ strategy and to intercept other vital information that was crucial to winning the war. The length of the war was also shortened by about 2-3 years. In conclusion, The Enigma was a very influential communication tool used throughout World War II. The cracking of the Enigma code vastly shortened the war and saved millions of lives.
