Poets of the Harlem Renaissance: The Poems that Spoke on Their Own

Aspects of Negro Life: An Idyll of the Deep South, painting: Aaron Douglas, c.1934

Thesis

With the help of the Great Migration, the Harlem Renaissance was brought to life by the creativity of Negros, allowing for peaceful and cultural messages to be communicated throughout the nation. Through the use of poetry, the Harlem Renaissance spoke candidly about the life of a colored person living through the United States in a graceful yet abstract manner. These powerful messages allowed their cultural pride and protest against racism to never waiver but only rise higher. This allowed future generations of African Americans to use their poems as a form of communication that helped bring about reform and hope to reduce racism.
