Tuskegee Airmen

Rights and Responsibilities
National History Day 2025

For a long time in history, people of color were prevented from doing many things.   On January 16th, 1941, thanks to the Secretary of the Army, Henry L. Stinson authorizing the formation of a black pilots & airmen squad, the Tuskegee Airmen were able to fight for their country.  During World War II, the Tuskegee Airmen fought against racial stereotypes, carrying out their responsibilities as soldiers to fight for their rights as people of color.  These valiant men are responsible for creating a legacy that advanced the fight for civil rights and reshaped the perceptions of African Americans in the military.
