Tutmania, the world-wide obsession with King Tut, began after Howard Carter discovered Tut’s tomb in 1922 and the artifacts within it traveled the world. It was the catalyst for making King Tut a modern cultural icon while communicating Egyptian heritage through the antiquities unearthed in his tomb. This led to King Tut’s likeness being used around the world on goods, reviving an interest in Egyptian culture, and drawing huge crowds to museums that showcased his life after death.
