The American Indian Movement

Overview -

The American Indian Movement (AIM) was brought when peace, justice, and activism was at the forefront of most marginalized groups. AIM was founded in 1968 Minneapolis, Minnesota, by a group of Native American activists, Dennis Banks, Clyde Bellecourt in response to the systemic discrimination faced by Indigenous communities. Through protests, occupations, and legal battles, AIM sought to reclaim stolen lands, demand government accountability for broken treaties, and ensure cultural preservation. Historical events underscore AIM’s role in asserting Indigenous peoples' inherent rights to sovereignty, self-governance, and cultural identity.
