On December 4th, 1996, the Mars Pathfinder mission launched, generating the great frontier of rover exploration on Mars and created a foundation for future Mars research. Ultimately, this mission demonstrated a quick and cost-efficient way of getting to the planet and proved a way to learn about Mars and its past in the quickest time possible. This expedition has led to over nine Mars missions and has boosted the amount of planetary exploration through the Mars exploration program since.
