In one of the mayor's speeches before the elections, he stated “Clean the streets” which meant to get rid of LGBTQ+.  Frequently gay bars had been raided, but Stonewall was the first bar to fight back. Gay bars were raided most nights, but normally it is just the bar paying the police to leave the bar alone, and then arresting people. After the raid, it seemed like nothing happened. Inspector Seymour Pine got orders to close down the Stonewall Inn, for the lack of a license to sell alcohol.
