Due to reactions from the general populace along with critics of the motor vehicle industry to the large number of injuries and deaths caused by motor vehicles in the late 20th century, the United States federal government enacted the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act in 1966, a reform that revolutionized car safety and how both government and industry treated consumers, though the act itself wasn’t a perfect solution to its own issue and represented a somewhat symbolic victory for the Consumer Movement.
