Sabermetrics–a mathematical and empirical analytic tool pioneered by Bill James and "statistorians"– challenged baseball’s traditional norms. While a revolutionary idea, backlash from scouts and fans who feared it would erode the national pastime's tradition and entertainment initially relegated sabermetrics to a marginal reform. However, in the early 21st century, the Oakland Athletics' Moneyball movement brought sabermetrics into the mainstream, revolutionizing core concepts of player evaluation. To this day, sabermetrics shapes modern sports management and analytics by combining data with traditional measures of talent assessment.
