The influence of Impressionism can be found in "La Mer" (Ross). The work was performed by the Saint Cecilia Orchestra, led under Leonard Bernstein (Ross). The work was also performed by the Berlin Philharmonic, led by Herbert von Karajan (Ross). The New York Philharmonic also performed this work, led under Boulez (Ross). The performance by The New York Philharmonic occurred in 1992, nearly 87 years after the publication of “La Mer'' (Ross). The composers of this era also changed how people perceived music through the use of dissonance (Boulanger 114-115). Without the help of Impressionistic composers most of the people still accustomed to the sounds of the Classical era wouldn't be able to enjoy the sounds of modern music.
