“Silent Cal” -  Revolutionizer of Voter Communication

John Calvin Coolidge was born July 4, 1872, to John and Victoria Coolidge, in Plymouth Notch, a small village in Vermont. His father was a shopkeeper and a postman, and he described his mother as an intelligent woman. He lived a simple life in the country, and liked to hunt and fish, and did his chores faithfully.

"Country life does not always have breadth, but it has depth. It is neither artificial nor superficial, but is kept close to the realities."
~ Calvin Coolidge

Calvin attended Black River Academy, to graduate in 1890. At 19, after taking a year of preparatory work at St. Johnsbury Academy due to an illness, he attended Amherst College and graduated cum laude. He aspired to go to law school, but his father thought it best that he read the law at an established law firm to become a lawyer.
