Abebe Aregaw was 20 years old when the 1984 famine hit. He watched as it dried out his land, starved his daughter, and killed his crops. Without much hope for the future, he took his young family to World Vision’s emergency feeding center, where they received help. Today, Abebe is a model farmer producing famous crops that bring buyers from far and wide. Ansha, who was 10 years old at the time of the 1984 famine, plays with her youngest daughter, Maida. Ansha and her younger brother were severely malnourished, but recovered at a World Vision feeding center. World Vision began their development work — they grew seedlings, they created a nursery, people were employed to work, schools were constructed, health institutions created, water pipelines built.

In response to Live Aid and other means of communications, organizations like World Vision came to light to aid those in Ethiopia get by and now many people are living out their lives without the threat of another famine. These organizations are still working to improve the lives of the Ethiopians and other countries in need.
