Thesis:

 These debates, although assumed to be small in the large landscape of U.S politics, ended up attraction the attention of the nation, and it propelled Lincoln to fame, but spelled the beginning of the end for Douglas. Not only that, but they inspired many other politicians to use debates as a way to spread, or to communicate their ideas and perspectives, with it even becoming a national tradition. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
