Mastectomy and Surgery

“Halsted proved beyond any doubt that massive, meticulous surgeries were technically possible in breast cancer. These operations could drastically reduce the risk for the local recurrence of a deadly disease”

Radiation Therapy

Radiology was another remedy to treat cancer. This method was found in the late 1800s by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen and was used as the remedy was found to be useful in killing cancer cells and this was taken up by Émil Grubbé.

Mullard Radiation Machine For Cancer Treatment. 1962. British Pathe.

"Émil Grubbé, a medical student in Chicago at the time, would later claim to have been the first to treat cancer patients with X-rays in 1896... The first deep-lying tumor to be eradicated by X-rays was probably a malignant sarcoma of the abdomen, treated over 1 1/2 years in New Haven by Clarence Skinner"

"What the early doctors didn't know, however, is that ionizing radiation not only fights cancers, it can cause them."
