The Post Office Department impacted America because it was more trustworthy and efficient than sending mail a different way. The Pennsylvania Gazette was a newspaper published by Benjamin Franklin and usually sent with American mail (Kiger). It gave readers news of what was happening in Britain (Kiger). Benjamin Franklin delivered the newspaper without having to pay postage by delivering it under the name of Free B. Franklin (Kiger). When Benjamin Franklin was appointed Postmaster General for America, he started replicating the postal routes he made for the British crown (Kiger). He “managed to make the delivery time for a letter from New York to Philadelphia and receive a reply to just 24 hours” (Kiger).
