          Blitzkrieg in World War II

                                 Thesis

                  In May, 1940, Germany invaded France with a style of warfare, Blitzkrieg, that literally broke through the frontier of trench warfare. Blitzkrieg, or Lightning War, involved moving quickly to get behind enemy lines in an attack. Due to the success of this new technique, the Germans swept through the countryside before the French had time to prepare, defeating them in just six weeks.
