The Navajo Code

The Navajo Code

The Navajo Code was a major breakthrough in the world of wartime communication because of the fact that it was one of the first codes based off of a Native American Language. The code was created by a group of 29 Navajo Nation members. The code’s success can be attributed to the fact that it was never broken by the Axis Powers. The code was retired in the 1960s when it became public to the world.

From CNN

In an interview with Navajo Code expert Zonnie Gorman she said that the code was revolutionary because it provided a safe line of communication for everyone who used it. This helped in the winning of the war against Japan because it provided a line of communication that was able to help give commands and orders across long distances without being intercepted.
