The importance of Cesar Chavez is that he created a union for working conditions of farm workers and to better their wages for their families. Throughout the 1970’s Chavez continued to lead the union to win labor contracts from farm workers in the industrial industry in the same nonviolent techniques of strikes and boycotts (“Cesar Chavez.”). In 1972, Chavez went on a second hunger strike to protest an Arizona law prohibiting farm workers from organizing and protesting (“Cesar Chavez.”). In 1975 California passed the landmark Agricultural Labor Relations Act, giving all farm workers the right to unionize and negotiate for better wages and better working conditions (“Cesar Chavez.”). In the mid 1980s, Chavez and the union started a campaign to focus on the use of harmful pesticides on the farm workers and the children (“Cesar Chavez.”). on May 9 2011 Chavez got a boat named after him for the service he did in the navy (“Farmworker Movement Documentation’’).
