Cesar Chavez was born in Yuma, Arizona, on March 31, 1927 (“Cesar Chavez.”). Chavez was ten years old when he lost his family store and ranch due to the Great Depression (“Cesar Chavez.”). Chavez moved to California along with 300,000 other people who migrated there to become migrant farmworkers (“Cesar Chavez.”). He dropped out of school after eighth grade so he could help work in the fields full time (“Cesar Chavez.”). In 1944, Chavez lied about his age to join the U.S. navy (“Cesar Chavez.”). While serving his two years, he fought in World War II under a segregated unit; he was later honorably discharged (“Cesar Chavez.”). After He was discharged Chavez returned to farmwork (“Cesar Chavez.”). He joined the Community Service Organization (CSO) in 1952 with the intent to help farm workers (“Cesar Chavez.”). In 1962 Chavez resigned from ( CSO) after not being able to get support from his coworkers to form a union for farm workers (“Cesar Chavez.”). In 1965 Cesar put out a paper about the farm workers and the conditions they had to endure (“Cesar Chavez.”).
