Impact

Jesse Owens' athleticism had an impact on the world and on racial discrimination (“How Jesse Owens…”). His athletic accomplishments in the 1936 Olympics disproved Hitler’s idea of a dominant race and supported racial change (O'Neil). Jesse Owens became the first American to win four gold track and field medals at the Olympics, a record that was held for 48 years (O'Neil). When he returned home to the United States, people were both amazed and inspired by his achievements (“How Jesse Owens…”). He became the first African American athlete to be featured in newspapers across the southern states. His dominance in athletics became a major breakthrough for African Americans (“How Jesse Owens…”). He made it inviting for the country to support an African American as a role model (“How Jesse Owens…”).
