That was a case about somebody disguising himself with "Any Oakley," in which he took somebody's trousers for cocaine. Revealing himself as Any Oakley, many at the time were shocked because they couldn't believe the world's famous sharpshooter did that. The story spread like wildfire. Annie Oakley, however, was angry because that accusation ruined her reputation. She sued people writing about her to keep the reputation she had.
During Buffalo Bill's Wild West, another female sharpshooter rose to fame. Lillian Smith boasted about her skills, telling everybody that Annie Oakley's career was bound to end. That statement created an unfriendly rivalry, but when she got accused, Annie didn't act.
Image of a newspaper that wrote Annie Oakley being a cocaine victim. Though there are much more newspapers, this is an example of one.
