In this article, President Johnson brings more awareness over the issue of poverty. He states that the enemy is not the government, but none other than "ignorance, poverty, disease, ugliness, injustice, (and) discrimination". He also said that the poverty within education is not about providing better education, but giving children the opportunity, allowing them to prepare for the life ahead.

This article proposes the actions taken toward reducing poverty. This was a major point during the conflict. There was a 50% reduction of Appalachians in Poverty. There was also a 50% decline of infant death, due to the clinics improving. The article also states that they have served “a region of 20 million people that includes all of West Virginia and part of Ohio, Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Virginia.”

~~~ Johnson Declares War On Poverty In America ~~~
This article talks about the agreements and disagreements of President Johnson spending trillions of dollars to help poverty. Ten democrats made tax reductions while controlling the government's spending. Six republicans, on the other hand, warned about the tax deduction, and questioned about the reality of budget cuts. Either way, democrats and republicans were both eager to help reduce poverty rates, even though all of their bright suggestions did not agree. This issue was brought to the five House members, and they stated that
