During World War II, many American men were drafted and sent out to fight against the Axis powers in Europe and Asia. These 12 million soldiers left their jobs behind that they had before the war.  Eventually the question arose as to how these positions could be filled in order to keep the economy running and the supply of war materials steady. This led to women filling these positions as they gained many new responsibilities, on top of their previous ones, and the economic right to work expanded for women. This would help advance the Women’s Rights Movement as they continued to fight for equal pay and equality in the workforce decades later, and even morph the responsibilities they had.
