My Reasoning for this topic I chose this topic because what started off as one person's passion and project, ended up changing the world and how we communicate with each other every day. After searching for a topic that interests me and that met the requirements for this project the invention of the telephone seemed to be an easy topic as I knew there would be a lot of information that I could learn from. Speaking with my parents about the changes from how they used the telephone when they were in their childhood to now and how I use it, I knew there was going to be even more variations out there to find out about it. The telephone also could fit into this year's theme in all three areas. The invention was revolutionary in the way we communicate with each other not only locally but around the world. The invention was also a big improvement to those who have businesses to run, in order to get communication back and forth quicker. The telephone was a part of reform in how big of an invention it was back in the 1870s. In that era, since it was very new people were only able to use it for a certain amount of time. It also helped local businesses grow and expand their customers. The reaction to the invention of the telephone was a mix of some feeling happy and some scared and anxious. Since this invention was so new, only the wealthy were able to adapt this form of communication early on. I started off my research by using many of the online sites that were available from websites and news articles. Then I was able to find some University’s had information in their library that I was able to access. Then using the information from the primary resources and secondary resources I was able to find all the information that was needed for this project. I started off by just learning about Alexander Graham Bell and what led him to invent the telephone, and learned that his family had a great influence on him and his career path. I then followed his timeline and the projects and things he worked on in the years that lead up to his successful telephone invention and started to create a timeline in understanding of how he was able to obtain the patient for his invention.
