The new era of fashion introduced by young girls had an effect that took over the media of the world. The idea of fashion being used as self expression was communicated as the new norm. Fashion pieces that were once unimaginable that would be considered outrageous in the 50’s took the fashion industry by storm in this new age. It was clear that communication and depiction of women influenced they way they dresssed.

Along with miniskirts, bright colors and patterns became a prime element of the 1960s. “Suede, headbands, kaftans, Afghan coats, beads and other non-Western elements of adornment were embraced” (Laver 267-268), which came as a result of the civil rights movement. The more open the media was to communicating equality, the more open people were to dressing non-traditionally.
