Importance

The importance of Morgan’s raid was there being a decline in the government at the time, and the government decided that they wanted to start a raid and needed their best raiders (Crawferd-Lackey). The reaction of the raid being announced had many people in awe because it came out of nowhere (Geib). When Morgan first became a part of the raid it had many people confused because they thought Morgan was done raiding but it turned out that “Morgan was commanded by General Braxton Bragg to lead the raid” (Geib) but it turns out that Morgan was the one to bring up the idea of the raid in the first place. “After Morgan and his crew fought at Cynthiana he and his crew were very drained but they still traveled in to Abingdon, Virginia Morgan’s crew was split up and Morgan was no longer in command and East Tennessee was now in command and Morgan was killed by Union forces on September 4, 1864 due to him making many enemies during the raid” (Crawford-Lackey).
