Radium clocks and watch faces, (Radioactiviy in Antiques).www.epa.gov/radtown/radioactivity-antiques.

In the 1920s, a group of young girls were hired to work in factories across the United States to paint clocks with radium paint. However, by the late 1920s, the Radium Girls, as they are known today, filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Radium Corporation as over 50 women had fallen ill and many died horrifically due to radium poisoning. The lawsuit led to a major turning point in the handling of radium, in addition to the creation of more labor laws, including the passing of OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act) in 1970.
