Few would realize that the full importance of Amelia Earhart would come from her tragic disappearance. On July 3, 1937, Earhart took off on an attempt to fly across the globe (“Clipping from The…”). At 2:30 a.m. Los Angeles operators received a dramatic S.O.S. coming from Earhart's aircraft (“Clipping from The…”). After the S.O.S. was received, Los Angeles operators lost all tracking and radio signal of Earhart and her aircraft (“Clipping from The…”). Although her body and plane have not been found to this day, she was officially declared dead after many people spent days looking for Earhart with no sign of her around (“Clipping from The...”). Earhart’s importance of being the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean changed how women are seen today (“Biography: Amelia Earhart.”). For example, women used to be seen as less capable in the workforce. Because of this, women always received house jobs or very minor jobs. This all changed when brave women, like Earhart, became a frontier and broke this biased stereotype. Because of Earhart breaking this biased stereotype, women can now acquire many different jobs. Earhart’s importance of flying changed how women are seen in modern society (“Biography: Amelia Earhart.”).
