William Buckley was born with immense wealth. At Yale University, Buckley wrote several books to spread his conservative beliefs. This drastic contrast in the upbringings of Baldwin and Buckley highlights the two polar outcomes of the American Dream, one forged from prosperity and one built from poverty.

Later, Buckley started the “National Review” newspaper, where he wrote with heartless racism about African-Americans. Buckley’s groundbreaking newspaper divided the conservative audience of the U.S.—those who supported focus on traditions and dependance on individuals to govern society—into one sector that maintained traditional beliefs and another sector that branched off into an extreme division.
