Battle of the Sexes
Man vs. Woman
Thesis
In the early 1960’s women were often overlooked, not just in life but in sports as well. There were a lot of social movements, gay rights movements, equality, and feminism protests were increasing in America.
As a result of the social movements in the early 1960’s, the Battle of the Sexes in 1973 between BJK and BR was more than a tennis match, it was a battle that King had to fight for women's rights.
Billie Jean King's victory over Riggs, was also a landmark for women to be able to fight for equal rights in society and encouraged female athletes to participate in other sports.
Women go on strike for equality.
